The Alterations & Repair workshop is a relaxed, hands-on workshop designed to help sewists build confidence and practical skills for fitting and adjusting clothes you already love. Over four supportive hours you’ll learn essential alteration techniques — from hemming and shaping to simple adjustments — while working on your own garments with guidance every step of the way. 

We keep class sizes small (max 8 learners) and you will have access to 6 sewing machines, an overlocker and a coverstitch machine to ensure a professional finish to your alterations. There will be  plenty of individual support whether you’re a confident beginner or a novice sewist wanting to grow your skills 

• Sewists comfortable with basic machine use and ready to learn garment adjustments
• Confident beginners and novice home sewers who want supportive, practical tuition
• Anyone curious about altering, repairing and improving the clothes they already own

 Across the session, you’ll:

• Understand how to assess garment fit and plan alterations
• Practise essential hemming techniques — machine, hand, and denim/trouser hems
• Take in and let out seams with confidence
• Opportunity to alter and repair own garments
   

Throughout, we focus on real, useful techniques you’ll use again and again. The pace is flexible and supportive — no rushed demos, just helpful guidance as you work

• Two or more garments you’d like to alter, ideally ones you want to work on during class
• Matching thread for your projects
• Optional: pinned, fitted or ready-to-adjust items — but this isn’t essential, we’ll help with fitting and pinning in class
• Basic sewing kit if you have one - there will also be plenty of equipment provided
   

Please avoid bringing very delicate, extremely expensive or highly complex pieces — choose projects that suit your current skill level so you can enjoy learning and make real progress.
