Step into a relaxing, supportive space and learn the skills that will help your clothes fit beautifully. Our Alterations Masterclass is designed especially for sewists who are comfortable with the basics and want to feel more confident adjusting garments—whether altering ready-to-wear pieces or refining your own handmade makes 

 Over four, hands-on hours, you’ll build practical techniques that you’ll use again and again. 

Understanding Fit

We’ll begin by exploring how to assess fit, where garments can be altered, and how different fabrics behave. You’ll learn what’s possible, what’s not, and how to make thoughtful decisions before you start stitching.

Hemming Essentials

You’ll practise three core hemming techniques:

• Simple machine hem
• Neat, invisible hand hem
• Jeans/trouser hemming 

Taking In & Letting Out

A step-by-step look at shaping garments:

• Pinning and fitting with confidence
• Taking in side seams on tops, dresses, and skirts
• Adjusting waistbands
• Understanding where you can safely let out seams

Straps, Sleeves & Little Adjustments

Small tweaks make a big difference. We’ll cover:

• Shortening/lengthening straps
• Simple sleeve adjustments
• Lifting shoulders for a clearer, more flattering fit

• A garment or two you’d like to alter (optional)
• Your basic sewing kit if you have one
• All machines, tools, and sample fabrics will be provided in our calm sewing space

• Confidence to tackle everyday alterations
• A set of practice samples
• Clear step-by-step methods you can use at home
• The skills to make your clothing fit you perfectly
