Beginner Evening Sewing Course (6 Weeks)

Course Overview

5th November - 10th December

Evening session - 7pm - 9pm

£180

Always wanted to learn to sew, or ready to build on the skills you already have?

This six-week course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have some sewing experience or have joined a Sew Serene course before.

In a relaxed, supportive environment, you’ll build practical sewing skills through a combination of useful techniques and garment making. We’ll cover skills such as inserting zips, creating different types of pockets, accurate seams and finishing techniques, before putting your new skills into practice by making a simple garment.

If you’re returning to Sew Serene, you’ll have the opportunity to build on what you’ve already learned, develop new techniques and take on a slightly more challenging project at your own pace.

With a maximum of just six students, there’s plenty of individual guidance, allowing everyone to work at the level that’s right for them. Whether you’re threading a sewing machine for the first time or coming back to develop your skills further, you’ll be supported throughout.

By the end of the six weeks, you’ll have developed a wider range of sewing skills, worked towards or completed a garment, and gained the confidence to continue sewing and tackling new projects at home.

Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, want to start making your own clothes, or simply enjoy some creative time each week, Sew Serene is a friendly place to learn, create and keep developing your sewing skills.

Who is it for?

  • Complete beginners who want to learn from the very start
  • People who own a sewing machine but aren’t quite sure where to begin
  • Anyone returning to sewing after a long break
  • Returning Sew Serene learners who want to build their confidence, learn new techniques and take
  • Creative makers who want to develop their skills and start making their own clothes

Join a welcoming, relaxed creative environment where you can learn at your own pace, build your sewing skills and enjoy making alongside others.

What you'll learn...

With small class sizes, projects and techniques can be adapted to suit the experience and pace of each group, so complete beginners and returning learners can continue developing their skills.

Across the six weeks, you’ll learn and develop skills including:

  • Understanding essential sewing tools and equipment
  • Reading and following a commercial sewing pattern
  • Cutting fabric accurately and understanding grainlines
  • Sewing accurate seams and creating professional finishes
  • Inserting zips and learning different zip techniques
  • Creating different styles of pockets
  • Pressing correctly throughout the making process
  • Using your skills to make a simple garment
  • Building the confidence to tackle future sewing projects more independently

By the end of the course, you’ll feel more independent in your sewing, more confident in your own ability, and better equipped to continue developing your skills
